COVID-19 poses a significant challenge to the health of the wider community and to the operations of many essential services supporting the health system such as the DTBV.
The DTBV will continue to operate and provide life-saving tissue grafts for burns victims, cardiac patients, spinal, orthopaedic and trauma patients as needed.
We have put in place measures to protect our staff, additional interim measures to maintain the safety of our tissue donations for transplantation and importantly can continue to provide surgeons with safe and effective tissue grafts for transplantation.
To ensure the safety of our workforce, the DTBV will operate with minimal staff on site operating in rotation and remaining staff working from home and on standby. The DTBV’s facility will not be open to families or visitors until further notice. The exception are couriers transporting tissue or supplies.
As a tissue bank we already have strict procedures and guidelines in place covering our operations appropriate for the COVID-19 crisis. The provision of safe tissue grafts for surgical use remains unchanged.
