The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria and the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine in collaboration with the Organ and Tissue Authority and DonateLife Australia, Rhyll Pictures and Impel Pictures have produced Beyond Thanks, a short film featuring Australians who have been touched by tissue donation.

Beyond Thanks portrays the reflections of tissue recipients as well as families of tissue donors. The film highlights the gratitude felt by these everyday Australians who have received the gift of a life-changing donation as well as the comfort felt by donor family members whose loved one generously became a donor to help others. Each year the lives of thousands of Australians are transformed through eye and tissue donation.

Jake honours his brother Sam, a tissue donor, and encourages all Australians to register to be a donor, ”Even in your passing you can still change people’s lives, in ways you can’t even imagine and that’s by being a tissue donor,” he says.

The film is released in time for DonateLife Thank You Day, Sunday 19 November, a day dedicated to honouring all living and deceased organ and tissue donors and their families. On this day, all Australians are encouraged to reflect on the life-changing benefits of organ and tissue donation and register their decision to save lives. The film was produced through the support of an Organ and Tissue Authority Community Awareness Grant.
